Returned home from Polson. Unsettled yet soft. No moves.
Partly cloudy and unsettled. Cows stay in SBW8. 3’s and calves stay put.
SPRING EQUINOX. Continued unsettled weather yet mild. Calves stay put. Cows move north into crested wheat split in SBW8 at end of day. 3’s stay put.
Cloudy and cooler with light showers. Calves move into NBW16. 3’s stay put. Cows stay put and the meadowlarks (a few) start to arrive and sing.
Very warm-70 degree-day at the ranch. Cows moved to next paddock split in SBW3 and also fed alfalfa. Calves stayed put. 3’s moved to next split in same paddock. Jason is back working with the PDs.
A light morning frost but otherwise a nice day. Calves moved to next paddock split and 3’s and cows stay put. First Red Winged Black bird arrives and tree sparrows starting to sing. Ryan is on call as I head to Polson to be with Max for 4 days.
More warming coupled with increasing winds begin the drying process. Ryan and I moved the cows into SBW3. 3’s stay put and calves moved to next split. First kestrel is seen feeding amongst the yucca south of headquarters. Winnet Working group meets with TNC to brainstorm partnering on a land purchase.
Snow just about gone as warm days and frost-free nights persist. Calves moved to next split. Killdeers heard up by the shop. Alfalfa day for cows. Warm day and thirsty cows led to opening the water storage pit to deliver more water recharge at the tanks.
Snow disappearing fast. I spotted first ferruginous hawk. Horned larks have started singing again. Calves moved to next split. Alfalfa day for cows and 3’s.
