Cold but a slow warming begins. I spent most of morning pushing cows back into EL2 and first split in EL3. I will need to follow up. Ryan worked on a broken water valve. In the afternoon I moved cows into 2nd and last split in EL3, as I will be attending a two-day Zen retreat in Bozeman.

Sub-zero morning and fortunately light winds. I use the hay day to get cows back into both WL1 and EL2. I hope tomorrow I can get cows on fresh feed in WL3. A lovely calm and pretty sunset (see photo).
More cold and light snow comes in from Canada. Cows stay put, yet break out into SBW6 while I am gone.
Cold but clear. I moved cows into 3rd split in EL2. I left in afternoon for WWF workshop in Rapid City.
Light morning snow and colder. Hay day. Held cows with hot wire and laid out 8 bales.
Warm air pushed into region from colder air from the north to follow. I moved cows into 2nd split in EL2. Weather report says this October the 4th coldest.
Cool to mild and clear. Cows stay put. See picture of salsify. Patches that cover many areas where Japanese brome also prospers-loamy better soil sites.
Wet morning snow and turning cooler. I moved cows into EL2. We began experimenting feeding Redmond salt with Garlic. I will be checking fecals soon. (AD calculation (445 (+bulls) x 1.3=576 x 7 days= 14Ads/acre)).
Warm and very windy. As the last two GAN samples showed the cows were down about .4 in their protein requirement, we began our winter alfalfa hay supplementation-feeding every 4 days at about 20+ pounds / day.
Mild. I moved cows into 5th and last split on WL1.
