Similar weather conditions. We worked calves (2nd vaccination and Bangs for heifers). Went very well with good help from neighbors and calves working calmly. Pushed 2 bulls back to the bull group NNG1.
Temperatures near the same and the winds have eased. Brought last group of calves (40) back from winter facility (NG2). Cows stayed in NBW9.
Strong uncomfortable gusty winds. Temperatures rise into the 30’s. Cows moved into NBW9. Cows broke out while I was trying to fence a temporary strip, and moved east into the whole paddock. Frustrated, but little I could do against 30 to 40 mph gusts.
Ryan trailed calves from his corrals to the home corrals and placed them in NNG5. Calves receiving about 8 to 10 pounds of feed a day.
Some light snow, that is soon blown off. Cows moved into NBW14.
Moderating temperatures and continued steady winds. Cows remain in NBW15 with some supplemental straw.
More winds and drifting. Cows moved to fresh grass to the west NBW15, yet are still watering at the Reservoir tank. Winter Tank at Big Wall is frozen. Ryan is keeping a good attitude. Most of calves got home, but about 30 still hanging at winter facility in NG2.
“Warming” SW winds are causing serious drifting. A number of calves drifted clear to the winter facility. Ryan took straw to the cows near the reservoir.
Bitter cold-40 below chill factor the morning of the 17th. Cows moved to 2nd split in 7 around reservoir.
